How everything started
Q: How did the business begin?
Clio: “It started at a farmer’s market in 2021 because I was bored. In 2022, I made a New Year’s resolution to have more fun with cakes. I decided to explore frosting and see if I liked it. Within three months, cakes were all I was doing. Now, we’re producing over 300 cakes a month and expanding into wedding cakes.”
Q: What do you think made ByClio Bakery successful as a business?
Clio: “The business is built on Instagram, and people thankfully like the way I decorate cakes—they’re described as ‘shabby chic.’ But what really makes us successful is the flavor. Our customers come back for the taste more than the aesthetic, and articles now focus more on our flavors than on how the cakes look, which I love.”
Q: When was your proudest moment?
Clio: “I realized how much press we’ve received when I was writing a pitch recently. I had to put together articles and discovered I’d been written up 17 times by major outlets like Vogue, Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian. It made me feel very appreciated and proud of the positive impact it’s had on the business.”
What are your favorite things about Metrobi?
- “I really appreciate the consistency. The drivers are great, and I’ve never had complaints from customers, which is the best indicator for me.”
