How everything started
Q: How did the business begin?
Alisha Lumea: “It was founded in 1939 by Dora and Abraham Savenor. It was passed through generations, expanding from a local shop to wholesale and now to E-commerce. The business really took off online just before COVID.”
Q: What do you think made Savenor’s Butchery successful as a business?
Alisha Lumea: “We’ve kept expertise at the center. Our butchers still break down whole animals, and customers know they’re talking to someone who really understands what they’re buying and how to cook it. That trust and personal connection are what set us apart.”
Q: When was your proudest moment?
Alisha Lumea: “Julia Child was a longtime customer and loved Savenor’s. She even wrote ‘Bon Appétit’ in the concrete outside our shop. That legacy—from celebrity chefs to everyday families—is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
