Q: How did the business begin?
Steven Rennau:“We opened in 1994 with the goal of creating an authentic French-style patisserie — one focused on elegance, atmosphere, and exceptional pastries, rather than stereotypical décor.”
Q: What do you think made Toni Patisserie & Cafe successful as a business?
Steven Rennau:“I think what’s made us successful is staying true to the essence of what makes a French patisserie special — focusing on the quality of the food, the elegance of the experience, and being part of our customers’ celebrations. We’ve built a loyal following over 30 years by delivering consistency, craftsmanship, and making people feel like they’re being transported every time they walk through our doors.”
Q: When was your proudest moment?
Steven Rennau: “Our proudest moment was being voted Best Bakery in Chicago by the readers of the Chicago Tribune. We were the only suburban finalist, and to win an award that was voted on by our guests and customers — not critics — meant the world to us.”
What are your favorite things about Metrobi?
