Can you tell us about your favorite childhood food?
My favorite dish is probably sushi! I’ve loved it since I was a kid. I remember my parents only let me have cucumber roll because they said there were “parasites” in the raw fish, but they would eat it and not let me. They said when I was old enough, I could have some. Once I did, I was hooked–and totally disregarded the “parasites” they talked about haha.

What did food mean to you before the lockdown?
Going out to eat at restaurants was my favorite pass time to do, especially with friends. I was in medical school up until last month, so it would be my treat after an exam or when I had more free time from studying. Food still has the same meaning to me in that the meals of the day are what I look forward to each day.
How did your food choices change during the lockdown?
During the lockdown, my family and I have some go-to restaurants that we take out from. It changes because my mother is more of a picky eater, so I don’t have as much freedom in terms of choosing what foods I wan to eat haha. Also, of course foods like Korean BBQ and hotpot are much harder, and hotpot used to be one of my favorites. A typical day entails more of homecooking or some take outs, depending on how much effort my family wants to put into it day by day. My family is Taiwanese, so eating at home means more Taiwanese food!
What do you miss the most? What did you discover new?
I think I miss being able to go to the beaches and outdoors. I am quarantining back at home in California, so those are aspects of CA that I love most. In terms of discovery, I have been connecting more with my artistic roots, in terms of video making, website design, and photography.
Do you have a food hack or a 2 mins recipe you can share?
One of my favorites to make while at home is an acai bowl. This is super simple! I usually just eyeball it but buy some: acai juice/smoothie packs, add milk (or a variant of for extra creaminess), frozen banana and berries, and blend! Then top with your favorite granola! Super easy, fast, and tasty.
