How everything started
Q: How did your business begin?
Suzanna: “I started Stems about 11 years ago as a pop-up shop inside a bar. It was one of those classic stories—I had just $1,000 in my pocket and started working, building up the business month by month.”
Q: What do you think made Stems successful as a business?
Suzanna: “I think our success comes from establishing a trusted brand in New York that resonates with people because of our values. We prioritize taking care of each other as a team and being mindful of the environment in our business practices. Our mission is to source flowers as domestically as possible, so customers can feel confident that the flowers they’re purchasing are grown by people earning a living wage, with a much smaller carbon footprint.”
Q: When was your proudest moment?
Suzanna: “Our proudest moment has been establishing a brand in New York that people trust and relate to because of our values. We focus on taking care of our team and the environment, and it’s meaningful to work with local nonprofits and give back to the community. Creating a workspace where our team feels safe, welcome, and creatively fulfilled every day—that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.”
